i turned on the heater in your car and watched the glass defrost there’s an empty can of beer in the console i hope we don’t get lost driving down scarborough street feels good to get off my feet for once and i don’t want your pity you know i hate feeling small and like a dog i run to you when you beckon or call i tidied up your room, put flowers in the vase you tucked away my hair to better frame my face driving down scarborough street woke up tangled in sheets again so high on scarborough street maybe we should start to head home you are six feet tall and strong and capable i am made of glass i’ve had many things to say to you forever but those too shall pass driving down scarborough street no place in heaven for people like me and i don’t want your pity you know i hate feeling small and like a dog i run to you when you beckon or call i tidied up your room, put flowers in the vase you tucked away my hair to better frame my face driving down scarborough street woke up tangled in sheets again so high on scarborough street maybe we should start to head home

take a breath, breathe me in like oxygen–deep in your lungs i’m not scared, i’m as brave as i’ve ever been the words i’ve sung don’t meet your ears like weathered old friends looking for solace or some sort of end i will wait for you under the lemon tree i dipped my face underneath running water and still i never got clean i’m not alone if you stay on my collar i’m begging you ‘baby don’t leave’ won’t you stay? stay. i am warm, got out of the cold finally–safe in my home fill the ice tray, make my bed and fall right asleep you came in my dream: i kept on screaming but you couldn’t hear me i woke up crying with nobody near me no one’s home–least it feels that way i dipped my face underneath running water and still i never got clean i’m not alone if you stay on my collar i’m begging you ‘baby don’t leave’ won’t you stay? stay. maybe this is what i needed to be on my own every second spent waiting for the ring of my phone won’t you stay the night one more time for me? i’m a basket case, a mess and a charity i hear sirens, and they sound like your morning voice tuning out everything till it’s all white noise i dipped my face underneath running water and still i never got clean i’m not alone if you stay on my collar i’m begging you ‘baby don’t leave’ won’t you stay? stay.

about

These songs remind me of the turn from autumn to winter and driving through unfamiliar areas. I remember feeling unsure and at times afraid of myself and my surroundings while writing them. I like to think they’re a symbol of how we can crystallize what is weighing us–in a sense. The continuing build of instruments in ‘Scarborough St.’ reminds me of what it feels like to suffer under the pressure of multiple looming forces, and this bleeds into the acoustic minimalism of ‘Running Water’, which is the releasing of tension and the embracing of calmness. I hope you enjoy this slight change of sound for this release, we intended to keep these songs a bit less complicated than their predecessors (all love).
